May 21, 2006. Iris gormanii - Scoggins Valley Road at Hagg Lake, about 35 miles west of Portland. The brief original description of Iris tenax, with no indication of a yellow color variation, led to the description of Iris gormanii as a separate species in 1924. Once it was realized that Iris tenax does occur in a wide range of colors, the name "gormanii" was no longer needed - except as historically tied to the Oregon Iris' yellow variety.
