- The World of Irises. Edited by Bee Warburton and Melba Hamblen, for The American Iris Society; 26 chapters, 494 pages (1978). Chapter 13 "The Pacific Coast Irises" by Clarke Cosgrove [pages 217-225], includes a ¼ to ½ page summary of each species and a review of their growing requirements. Jean Witt "Cal-Sibe hybrids" [pages 225-231] discusses Californicae-Sibericae ("Cal-Sibe") crosses and their culture.
- A Guide to the Species Irises, their Identification and Cultivation. Edited by the Species Iris Group of the British Iris Society; Cambridge University Press, 371 pages (l997). Names, identification criteria, distribution, cultivation requirements, and observations on each of the world's currently accepted wild iris species; 27 range maps, 27 drawings, 128 color photographs. The section on PCN irises [pages 144-158, map 13, fig. 13], by Victor A. Cohen covers the material also available in his reprinted article: "A Guide to the Pacific Coast Irises".
- The Jepson Manual: Higher Plants of California, edited by James Hickman, University of California Press, 1400 pages (1993). The section on Iris (pages 1153-1155, by D. Henderson and A. Cholewa, and 22 line drawings on page 1161) includes a concise description of the genus, and an identification key and description of each of the 20 iris species and subspecies known to occur in California.
- Books on the local flora of specific sites or regions usually include accounts, drawings and photographs of the native irises that grow within its boundaries.
