June 14, 2004. Iris hartwegii pinetorum's last blooms for the year near Canyon Dam, Lake Almanor, at the northern end of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. Unlike other Sierra Iris, it has a floral tube up to 1½ inches long, and its two flowers often open at the same time. Some botanists would consider it a distinct species - Iris pinetorum. |
